During the last week, our long time pastor has finally decided to step down from pulpit service. Due to age and failing health this zealous servant of the Lord, has asked me to step up, and at least temporarily, take over leadership of the church.
While I have been providing the church bulletin, responsive scriptural readings with commentaries, and leading the after worship service Bible study; this new challenge and opportunity presses me into a new role, for which I feel I may not be adequately prepared. Having never achieved a college degree nor attended seminary, stepping into a pastoral role is a test of faith.
Yet, it is not the person that is important in leading the church, but rather that Jesus Christ is the head and continues to call for messengers to spread the good news of grace and eternal salvation. So, while we are in a time of transition, Jesus’ headship continues without interruption.
After over four years of writing commentaries for the bulletin, and the research and Bible study required for each, perhaps this is a natural progression. Having relied on the Holy Spirit’s guidance in the little stewardship role to this point, I will faithfully move forward leading as our little church continues to serve its members and community during this time of transition.
From you dear reader, I solemnly request your prayers for my successful transition into this new role. May God bless us all…
